Successful Defence Secured at Inner London Crown Court

OSM Legal Consultants is pleased to report a successful outcome secured at Inner London Crown Court in March 2026, where the defendant was acquitted following a contested trial.

Working closely with Rustem Guardian Solicitors and instructed counsel Sapna Devi of Millennium Chambers, the defence advanced a carefully structured case centred on evidential context and disclosure.

A key aspect of the defence involved establishing the background to the incident, including a prior altercation in which the defendant had reported being the victim. Police had attended at the time and observed visible injuries, and an arrest had followed. This context formed an important part of the defence narrative and was relied upon to challenge the prosecution’s account.

The defence team submitted a detailed Addendum Defence Statement pursuant to section 6A of the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996, placing the prosecution on notice and seeking full disclosure of relevant material. This included requests for comprehensive digital evidence, police records, and material relating to key witnesses.

Particular emphasis was placed on the need for full mobile phone downloads, given that all parties were native Spanish speakers, making selective extraction of messages impractical. The defence made clear that any failure to comply with disclosure obligations could give rise to further applications under section 8 CPIA.

Following consideration of the evidence, the jury returned a not guilty verdict.

This outcome reflects the importance of early case strategy, detailed preparation, and a proactive approach to disclosure in criminal proceedings.
